CRO Testing Roadmap
September 2026
The strongest opportunity is to make the path to purchase clearer and more trustworthy. The roadmap pairs a simpler Energy+ buy box with stronger proof, cleaner campaign continuity, faster mobile interaction, and a cart that gives shoppers a reason to add more.
Testing Queue
Eight focused ideas
Each illustration shows the customer-facing change at concept level.
Default-selected Energy+ flavor
Page: Energy+ PDP
The Energy+ buy box opens with both flavor quantities at 0, a disabled Select a Flavor button, and locked gifts. That adds a required choice before shoppers see an active purchase path. The variation opens with Sour Green Apple at quantity 1, Subscribe and Save selected, the full benefit stack unlocked, and an active Add to Cart button.
Sour Green Apple opens selected, the complete subscriber benefit stack is visible, and Add to Cart is ready. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Energy+ trust signal
Page: Energy+ PDP
No star rating or review count appears across the three captured Energy+ PDP folds, while the homepage features 2M+ Orders and 100M+ Servings. Direct PDP visitors therefore reach the purchase decision without that existing proof. The variation places the sourced trust signal directly under the product title.
The existing 2M+ Orders and 100M+ Servings proof moves directly under the Energy+ title. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Target context on store locator
Page: Find in Store / store locator
The verified site path is the generic Find in Store navigation link to a ZIP-based store locator; no dedicated Target landing page was found. For Target-led campaign traffic, the variation adds a Now Available at Target message and a retailer-specific store-finder action to this verified locator journey.
The test adds Target context to the verified generic ZIP store locator; no dedicated Target landing page is assumed. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Collab-specific buy boxes
Pages: ICEE and Luigi's landing pages
The ICEE and Luigi's heroes preserve the collaborations, but each buy box resets to Instant Hydration Electrolyte Powder and Select from 14 Flavors. Shoppers must identify the featured flavor among the full range. The variation carries each collaboration into the title, selected flavor, and CTA.
Each campaign name, featured flavor, and CTA remain aligned from hero to selection. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Mobile interaction speed
Pages: Homepage and Energy+ PDP
Mobile lab tests score the homepage at 48/100 with 31.8s Time to Interactive and the Energy+ PDP at 47/100 with 34.1s Time to Interactive. Both pages appear before they are ready for taps, while CLS is 0 on each. This direct fix targets the blocking work so the visible shopping experience becomes interactive sooner.
The direct fix closes the gap between visible content and usable controls on the two highest-priority mobile pages. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Explicit subscription choice
Page: Energy+ PDP
Two 1-star reviews say a one-time order became a recurring subscription without authorization. The current Energy+ flow combines flavor and delivery frequency while gifts are locked behind the selection step. The variation places complete Subscribe and Save and One-Time Purchase terms above the flavors so shoppers see the price, cadence, flexibility, and included benefits before choosing.
Subscription cadence, flexibility, gifts, shipping, and one-time terms become visible before flavor selection. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Cart free-gift progress
Page: Cart
The verified filled cart shows one Energy+ line item, then a large empty area before the subtotal and Secure Checkout button. It contains no upsell, cross-sell, bundle offer, or gift-progress UI. The Subscribe and Save state illustrated is $27.50; a plain one-time add is about $49.50 after the welcome discount, versus a $55 list price. The variation tests an Add $12 more for a free water bottle goal directly under the item.
The illustrated current state uses Subscribe and Save pricing at $27.50; the missing gift-progress opportunity also holds for the one-time cart. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Balanced homepage hero
Page: Homepage
The homepage hero is entirely Energy+, while the core 14-flavor line first appears as one of two secondary tiles. The core line carries most of the reviews and the dominant paid-search presence reviewed in the audit. The variation gives Energy+ and Electrolytes equal hero-level panels with a direct path into each range.
Energy+ and the established 14-flavor range receive equal hero-level paths on desktop and mobile. Concept illustration only. Final design will differ.
Cross-source priorities
Biggest Killers of Conversion Rate
- 01Subscription enrollment and cancellation are the most evidence-backed friction. Two reviews describe an unauthorized recurring order, community research flags the same issue, and the PDP gates gifts behind the selection flow.
- 02Energy+ owns the homepage and the audited PDP, but the PDP carries no star rating or review count. Its on-page priority also outweighs its presence in the paid-search creative reviewed.
- 03Retail and collaboration promises weaken after the click. The verified Find in Store journey is a generic ZIP locator with no Target context, while ICEE and Luigi's branding disappears inside the buy box and CTA.
Data sources used
What the sources show
Meta Ads and Landing Pages
- Campaign-themed landing pages reuse the same generic buy box with $27.50 Subscribe and Save, $49.50 One Time, and a Select from 14 Flavors CTA.
- Target availability appears in the campaign evidence, but the only verified site path is the generic Find in Store link to a ZIP-based store locator. No dedicated Target landing page was found.
- ICEE and Luigi's imagery carries into each hero. The product title and CTA then drop the collaboration name.
Google Ads
- Paid-search messaging centers on ingredient credibility, lab testing, alternatives to sugary sports drinks, and price-per-stick value.
- Collaboration angles do not appear in the reviewed search creative, so the paid channels do not reinforce one shared hero claim.
- Energy+ appears as one small display unit while the core electrolyte line dominates the reviewed set.
Reviews and UGC
- Taste and flavor variety are the most repeated positives. Watermelon, raspberry, cherry limeade, and strawberry lemon receive specific praise.
- Athletes and active users describe hydration and recovery benefits, and zero sugar is repeatedly called out positively.
- Two 1-star reviews describe an unexpected recurring subscription, including one report of a $99 charge. A separate review says return shipping was charged inside the 50-day guarantee window.
- Price sensitivity and an undisclosed Cotton Candy reformulation create additional friction.
PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals
- Mobile homepage performance is 48/100 with 4.4s LCP, 1,410ms TBT, and 31.8s Time to Interactive.
- The Energy+ PDP is 47/100 with 4.8s LCP, 1,840ms TBT, and 34.1s Time to Interactive.
- CLS is 0 on both pages. No desktop test or real-user CrUX data was collected.
Site Screenshots
- The homepage hero is entirely Energy+, while the core 14-flavor line first appears as one of two secondary category tiles.
- The live Energy+ badges read Daily Energy, Mental Focus, and Zero Sugar. One captured CURRENT PDP fold omits Mental Focus.
- The Energy+ PDP opens with both flavor quantities at 0, a disabled Select a Flavor CTA, locked gifts, and no visible star rating or review count.
- The verified filled cart shows one Energy+ line item, a large empty area, then the summary. It contains no upsell, cross-sell, bundle prompt, or gift-progress UI.
Social and Community Research
- Energy+ is the dominant current theme across the official TikTok account, independent creators, and a LinkedIn post. The homepage and PDP corroborate that priority.
- Subscription and support friction surfaces independently in the Trustpilot summary and matches the collected reviews and PDP selection mechanic.
- Taste and mixability praise appears across TikTok, Trustpilot, Social Nature, and the collected reviews.
- A travel-hydration post reached 18.6K views, the highest-performing organic post in the research window, but the use case is not reflected in the site or reviews collected.
Competitor Research
- The site's own comparison module positions LMNT and Liquid I.V. as the direct set.
- Instant Hydration is listed at $0.92 per stick on subscription and $1.65 one time. The audit lists LMNT at about $1.30 on subscription and Liquid I.V. as low as about $0.73 in a Costco multi-pack.
- Instant Hydration lists 500mg sodium per serving, versus LMNT's 1,000mg positioning. The brand's comparison module emphasizes salt type and formulation quality instead.
Business Context
- The Energy+ PDP is the current focus product and the destination of the homepage's main CTA. It is not the site's best-selling product.
